McDonald's Unveils Robot-Run Restaurant #1
Robots have replaced employees at one McDonald's. When even the worst jobs can be automated, makes you question the value of human labor.

That's freaky. Sometimes it's nice to have an employee to talk to.

Could get interesting if the robot gets an order wrong, too. Burgers might be cooked pretty uniformly, though.

That's an interesting thought, would there be a supervisor offsite or something for that? I wonder what safety features they have in place for fires and etc...

Im all for it, I mean if your job can be 100% automated with zero human input then that job is probably menial and you are not reaching your full potential in it. Love the terminator reference at the end there xD

I mean, that's automation Biggrin
I remember a humor video talking about it, this was a delivery man giving a package to an old man. The old man told him that, back in the time, things were delivered by post office, then the delivery man says that it's how things work now and that people should accept evolution. Then both see a delivery drone delivering a package.

This looks like fun! Though we know how often machinery is "out of order". Most places can't consistently keep toilet cubicles "in order" so I don't see there being an issue with humans being replaced. I don't mean that restaurants can't be automated. Moreso that the "human" role in it will likely be more related to mending and servicing the machinery. Or installing new ones/upgrading, inspecting and so on.

I fail to see how there is no human involved though. Is there a robot handing deliveries? Is it a robot that handles callouts to the walk in fridges and freezers not working? It could be, but I'd be suspicious.

Update upon reading further - Looks like the restaurant isn't actually fully automated:
Code:
A spokesperson for McDonald’s told the Guardian that the test concept “is not fully automated”, emphasizing that the restaurant does employ a team comparable to that of a traditional store.

Smaller than a typical McDonald’s, the location is geared towards customers on the go rather than those who plan to dine inside. It limits interactions between team members and customers and uses “enhanced technology that allows the restaurant team to begin preparing customers’ orders when they’re near the restaurant”.

For me it's better when you have people around to communicate. This process with automation can lead to the replacement human by robots at workplace. Not a good tendency.
