The problem is that once people understand what makes them human, and trying to copy it, it will go the way of cloning, likely, long before and progress is made. Individuals with the power of those decisions don't like the idea of people playing god.

Not to mention, once something else becomes like us, what defines us as human anymore?

Obviously some people will find a way to use and abuse this sort of technology in some way. They could potentially use it to take over the country's. Everything has its pros and cons. They should just have to find a suitable method to implement it without most the human race knowing so its less likely to be abused. I recommend watching 'person of interest' as it relates to what I am saying in some way.

Person of Interest as in the show which predicts crimes and such? Yeah, good show though I don't really see such technology happen anyday, highly doubt it but we never know what we can accomplish, so I won't deny it.
