Based on historical accounts, rap can be traced back all the way to the time of the griots, who were groups of people from West Africa that delivered stories accompanied by sparse instrumentation and rhythmic drumbeats. You're talking about rap by it's core definition while I'm talking about hip-hop and hip-hop culture. If we're talking about the first then we could trace shit back to Flyting.

Believe it or not, I used to MLG dub with NobodyEpic on H3 way back in the day. Those were the amazing days. He didn't rap like he did now though, I'm happy for him.
