One ticket isn't enough, the whole point is to buy as many as you can afford thus giving you more of a chance. I have purchased maybe seven now.

Well, I would rather buy 1. You bought 7. That's 700 AP or 1/4 of elite. Now after 4 weeks you just spent more than you would have won. So ill just buy 1 ticket. If I win, cool. If not I lose 100 AP. So ill just buy 1 then if I win, but elite. If I lose... well I'm okay with it.
