Lorenz Ransomware Decryptor Released for Free #1
It's neat to see decryptors are being made for ransomware. The No More Ransom Project has a number of decryptors available for those affected.

Quote:Dutch cybersecurity firm Tesorion has released a free decryptor for the Lorenz ransomware, allowing victims to recover some of their files for free without paying a ransom.

Lorenz is a human-operated ransomware that began operating in April 2021 and has since listed twelve victims whose data they have stolen and leaked on their ransomware data leak site.

Lorenz is not particularly active and has begun to taper off in recent months compared to other operations.

I've come across quite a few decryptors during my online travels.

In terms of how effective they are against a given ransomware, remains to be seen.

I've yet to experience it and I don't know anyone that has, so I can't vouch for any of the decryptors. That said, it sounds like a possible solution for those that are desperate - which could be better than nothing.

I've tested a few decryptors In a controlled simulated environment, all of which returned mixed results.

Absolutely.

Having some form of protection, Is better than being exposed without any defense whatsoever. In my view, the number of ransomware variants outweigh the decryptors that're capable of effectively taking care of the Infections.
