Links are no follow 02-10-2018, 07:52 PM

Hi,
Why all the links are now rel="nofollow? It's not only this forum but all of them.
I don't want my stuff indexed on google but there was a link i want to index but the attributes are no follow now.
Thanks

That's a default for MyBB IIRC.
It's so spammers can't get SEO benefit from spamming a forum.

Honestly, it's less-so skids, because that's a site-dependent decision (although, as it stands, MyBB doesn't have the ability to discriminate on that factor without a custom plugin), but more-so bots that spam bullcrap.

Ok, i was just wondering if a user contributes to the community and with that increase the number of useful posts, there is a good opportunity to rank a url in search engines. Indirectly or directly it can contribute to a marketing campaign and boost the search results for that url.
Am i wrong?

It really does depend on what you're adding the nofollow to.
If it's for example a forum you're running and you might want to make sure people don't end up using your forum as a link farm of sorts, then absolutely nofollow those as it could end up backfiring.
Another reason could be if you have of software, or a template you've built on WP etc that has a link back to you at the bottom, you might want to nofollow that for the same reasons.
Otherwise, no, you don't want to nofollow all your links, you want to be able to tell Google which resources you find authoritative, so it can pass on pagerank etc.
