RE: Laptops #11
I have a Dell that costed me over 1000 dollars. It's extremely good and durable with great specs, and I have Ubuntu installed as primary OS because fuck Windows and Linux FTW

I don't stand by a brand, but I do stand for a product line, Think Pads. The best laptops I've ever used. Spares are plentiful. Community support it warming. And they are so durable.

I have had three friends who have had issues with the hardware and repairs were a nightmare. Toshiba (as far as I know) solders their parts right to the mother board. This means that repair will cost MORE because the repairers have to remove the solder, and then resolder the new part. Otherwise the brands are just like food brands, they "taste" or act slightly different, but besides that, they get done what they need to.

I was pretty much going to write this. I stand by HP never had problems with them.
Toshiba I had problems with.
Hopefully building my own computer soon though.
I played around on Macs n just couldn't get use to them.
Dells are always decent to me.
I'm no expert though, these opinions may change.

Kind of an old thread but my sister a few states away just bought a brand new HP never used and had it not 1 month and it already died and is now being sent off for warranty.

Now I respect the fact that they took it in without any problems for her to fix it and they even paid for shipping but come on its a brand new laptop and it failed.

That's why they have warranties. New things can break sometimes. What is she having fixed on it?

Sometimes this shit literally just happens, it could've been slightly damaged during transport that would lead to failure after a short period of time OR she could've damaged it herself etc.

All technology can fail unfortunately which is why the beauty of warranties exist.

It happens.

Around 10 years ago, I purchased a brand new Dell lappy and after taking It straight out of the box and booting It up, It got the BSOD and continued to do so. It turned out one of the Ram "slots" was faulty and responsible for the BSOD. Sometimes, brand new Isn't always the best option- It simply hasn't been put through It's tests as the consumer would.
Yet I still purchase new products.

Call me insane, but my choices are either Asus, or lenovo. Lenovo because unlike other compaines, you can buy service parts directly from them.
