I'd say a desktop, way more power etc.
I have a laptop myself but I'm saving up to build a custom rig.

I use my desktop to download and watch Anime, and I use my laptop to produce graphics.

I ain't got internet at home, and it seems you're gonna need the internet just to do simple things anymore, so I vote for laptop for now.
