You can use this code in websites and sometimes it will unlock secrets around a website where only using this code gets you there. The first time I heard of the konami code was how you could use it in Contra. I know a ton of games still use this code though, even to this day. I had no clue you could use it on sites though that's pretty neat.

I found out awhile ago and I thought it was pretty cool. But some of the sites listed on that website dont support the Konami Code anymore sadly.
