Jailbreaking is dying #1
Last week, all but one of the default Cydia sources have closed up shop. Right now, the only default source that is still in operation is BigBoss, run by Optimo, who has commented on the current state of jailbreaking.

Plain and simple, right now there are record lows for jailbreak users. This isn't because Apple has won, and made an OS that can't be broken, but because of two things. They've made an OS that's so hard to break, the exploits are just too valuable to throw away for free, and Apple has incorporated almost every good jailbreak feature into the OS at this point.

Aside from that, every one of the original jailbreak devs, and even some of the ones from 3-6 (including myself) have moved on to other hobbies.

Sorry for the short post, just thought it was important, ddx: go

Agreed I believe anyone wanting to run third party software or apks have moved to Android and the ones still on iPhone are pleased with the OS as is.

I wouldn't say that. The official numbers are that more and more people are switching to iOS every day. Back in the day, Android phones had good perks that drew people in:
free OS updates
wide variety of phones
SD cards
removable batteries

but now all of those are gone. the typical Android phone today has
a massive screen (Apple followed suit on this, and it was the worst decision they've made since firing Jobs way back when)
sealed units (no removable parts)
soldered on internal storage (like Apple)
security issues left and right
prolonged update delays
bad coordination between manufacturers and os devs

True at least they are slowly bringing back the SD slot on flagship phone's that was a bad mistake. And yeah updates depending on phone can be a bit laggy but I love it. It's all about preference really like windows and Linux.

Android is neither Windows or Linux. Android uses a heavily modified lightweight Linux kernel to interface hardware, but runs JRE overtop of everything. iOS is an XNU kernel (hybrid BSD) on top of a BSD subsystem. In that regard, iOS is closer to Linux than Android is, which is saying something, because XNU is closer to Windows than it is to Linux.

Exactly, these days the hardware on both is essentially equal so it comes down to personal preference. The only big difference nowadays is price, granted there are 1k android flagships but for the most part they're cheaper.

It's not all preference, but yes price is a big factor. Apple has gone completely off the deep end the last 2 years. It all started when they started sacrificing performance for thinness on their laptops, and consequently I refuse to buy one made after 2011.
I stick with the iPhone for two reasons though. Performance (iPhones are able to beat real computers in their benchmarks), and security. iOS is hands down the most secure operating system on the planet (out of the box), and you can make it even more secure with a little code.

Look I new you were going to say that I was referring only to the preference being the two major platforms. Now I have seen your other rants about iOS being dominate over Android and it simply is not true. Sure if you want the simplicity of making calls and occasionally listening to paid music on a platform that never changes and that a monkey of the street can operate than IPhone is for you. But if you want a phone that you can dig into and really get to the nuts and bolts of and try different platforms and enjoy the freedom of have domain over your device than Android is your best option so like I said it is all about preference not a I'm bigger than you so join my team. Because they are both flawed. So do you even remember what this post was about I tried to be nice and you just wouldn't stop with your iOS bullshit.

I'm going to keep us on topic and just not enter this debate. You can have whatever beliefs you want about the two platforms, that's a topic for another time. This thread is about jailbreaking (specificalyl for iOS), let's keep it there.

Computer wise, Apple has been making hardware choices that are iffy for a long time. Which sucks especially since their build quality is SO NICE.

In terms of phones though, you're entirely correct, iOS is unparalleled in security. A big part of that is because of the tight grip that Apple keeps on it's phones and os. The fact that manufacturers can load their own software on top of stock android just increases the amount of fuck-ups that could (and do) happen. It all comes down to the freedom v. security debate.
