How to know if proxy has SSL support?

So let's say I have a list of mixed http and https proxies. How can I know which are http and which are https?

As far as I know http and https proxies can have same ports, so I cannot know which are which by their port.

Is there any way I can determine if proxy is HTTP or HTTPS?

Provided the proxies are alive, you can use an online tool to check the type of protocol.

I know there are services that provide proxy checking, but I'd like to know the way they are getting those proxy info?
