I did notice this with my different Linux distros.

That's where I need to refresh my usage.

You can also disable Windows Updates via the GPE (Group Policy Editor), but you must have a supported edition of Windows 10- being Education, Pro or Enterprise.

There isn't just a simple button that says "Disable automatic updates". I will be teaching you two easy ways to disable it.

Method 1: easier method
Code:
Go to settings [i]not control panel.[/i]
Then go to "Network and Internet"
Next click the "Wi-Fi" tab
Now click "Manage known networks"
Then click on your network, click "Properties"
Scroll down until you find "Metered Connection" and turn that on
Now Windows 10 should not automatically download updates  Wink

Method 2: a bit harder method
Code:
Open Run by either doing the "Windows key + R" key combo, or clicking on Cortana and typing Run
In Run type regedit then click OK or just hit enter
On the left, navigate to { HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\Windows }
Right click the "Windows" folder, hover over "New", and then click "Key"
Now type "WindowsUpdate" and press enter
Right click the newly created "Key" called "WindowsUpdate" hover over "New" then click "Key"
Type "AU" and press enter
Right click the new "AU" key hover over "New" then click "DWORD (32-bit) Value"
Now name that new key "AUOptions" and click enter
Go to that new option, double click it, and enter one of the following values:

2 - "Notify for download and notify for install."
3 - "Auto download and notify for install."
4 - "Auto download and schedule the install."
5 - "Allow local admin to choose settings."

I would suggest 2

Now click OK, or hit enter
Close the Registry Editor

If you chose option 2 then you will get a notification in Notification Center letting you know that updates are available. I really hope that this could help you! Also, give me feedback of what I could to improve my tutorial's in the future.

P.S. If you have any other methods, please drop them below!

ill try both methods,

If your Windows "edition" supports the GPE, disable the updates from there.

Also, set your Internet connection to "Metered connection" by navigating as follows:

(1). Start > Settings > Network & Internet > Wi-Fi > Manage known networks.
(2). Then go to: Wi-Fi network > Properties > (turn on) Set as metered connection.

This does not limit your Internet connectivity, but more so gives the Impression that you have "limited" resources to update/download, hence Windows Updates takes this as such and does not allow the updates to Install.

You're most welcome.

In the event all the above fail (which I'm very confident they won't), hit the Registry and disable Windows Updates as follows.

* In the Run menu, enter regedit
* Navigate to this path: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\Windows
* Right-click the Windows folder and select New > Key
* Name the key (you've just created) as AU
* Right-click the AU key and select New > DWORD (32-bit) Value
* Give the key the name of AUOptions
* Lastly, double-click the AUOptions key and give It a value of 2

Given the Registry Is a critical part of the OS, I strongly suggest creating a backup by using It's "Export" feature.
