A descent firewall is good to start with, but it's more than that. You need to properly configure your router, NIC and other stuff and even than you won't be 100% secure.
How secure do you want to be, because if you really want to be secure you shouldn't even be using your own ISP, or at least that's what I think of it.
Oh!!! I see ... thanks for the insightful information, and i know that i am not gonna be 100% secure but my point or goal with all of this is to be secure as best i can ... eg: if am to be hacked, i want to make it hard for the attacker or i at least get some warming or indication that something malicious is going on and base on my tools and configurations i can put a stop it ...
