How to Secure your Home Network ???

Hello Everyone, Trik3r here ...

I already watch a ton of YouTube videos and read a lot of books pertaining to this topic, but the reason why am asking ... is because most of the information i have gathered do really give in-depth understanding ... eg: Long as you have a firewall you should be good, no i wanna know what ports should i leave open or closed, what type of configuration i should do or what packages i should have installed, Which Linux firewall is the best etc ...

your recommendation is greatly appreciated ...

Well it depends, you can configure it as much as you'd like. You can configure it so that you can only visit 1 webpage and don't allow access to anything else.

A descent firewall is good to start with, but it's more than that. You need to properly configure your router, NIC and other stuff and even than you won't be 100% secure.
How secure do you want to be, because if you really want to be secure you shouldn't even be using your own ISP, or at least that's what I think of it.

Definitely a firewall and to help avoid traffic monitoring and capturing, hard code your connection via cable/ethernet.

Dedicate your systems to specific tasks, such as one PC for sensitive account logins, another for general navigation and so forth. Run virtualization software (VMs) and In the absence of a VM, run all files and applications In a sandbox environment. To help protect against viruses and the like, boot off a Live CD. Also, of significant Importance, always exercise common sense and good judgement. There's heaps, I've only named the basics.

Well, I don't understand why you would use a home network when you can jack your neighbor's for more anonymity, but you have it your way.
Here's what you can do, manipulate stenography via firewalls and GlassWire.

Also, never leave your router's gateway with the default password login.
If you can, cloak your network.

WOW!!! thanks for that very insightful information, i really appreciate it ... i do know some stuff, i was just assuring myself to see if i leave out anything ... this helps alot, thanks again ...

... but the late part though, please define 'Cloak your network' what steps should i take ???

You have to have a 'Home Network / Command Center' of some sort, and only when its necessary its required to use neighbors network for anonymity, at least thats what i believe in ... buts its best to use a cafe shop/school library where you have multiple computers connecting to and from a network, that way you cant/hardly be trace ...

Oh!!! I see ... thanks for the insightful information, and i know that i am not gonna be 100% secure but my point or goal with all of this is to be secure as best i can ... eg: if am to be hacked, i want to make it hard for the attacker or i at least get some warming or indication that something malicious is going on and base on my tools and configurations i can put a stop it ...

It's a lot more difficult for security analysts than what It Is for hackers. From a security standpoint, you need to Identify every vulnerability, loophole, flaw and poor configuration to secure your network or device. From a hacker's perspective, all you need Is one vulnerable gateway (that was perhaps missed or overlooked), and you're In.
