This leads to a lack of proper concentration and focus on a specific, important task. We are not supposed to multitask no matter how much it's being advertised as a must have skill. There are multiple research papers on this as well as YT videos, Ted Talks for example.

That's a very valid point. However, I would take those studies with a pinch of salt. If you are multitasking every second of the day, across multiple media devices, that's a very different thing from multitasking while drawing a picture (my commission) and listening to a podcast. Multi-tasking is a very overarching term, and should not be overgeneralised like that. When it comes to multi-tasking, you should think about how much time you are spending doing it, and what those activities are. I'm somebody who multi-tasks a lot, but who has had impeccable success in academics over the years, and I have never found it difficult to concentrate.

Another example: While researching for a paper, I would listen to music (usually without lyrics) to help me block out whatever is going on in the room and to relax me. Equally, I could complete research just as well without it. However, it wasn't as fun to do. This may not be the case for everybody, but you should know your personal limitations.

My video gaming + Netflix habits are pretty bad, depending on the task, and I wouldn't recommend doing that long-term. But an hour or two here and there isn't going to harm you.

As with anything, think carefully about it.

Small addition to this post: In terms of job postings asking for multi-tasking - I utterly hate those. What that usually translates to, is taking an in-depth phone call, whilst simultaneously completing a report or filling in an excel spreadsheet. That is total BS, and you will not do either task as well as you could have, if you'd been focusing on the one thing.
