How do you handle boredom? #1
When I have nothing to do and have nothing to do around the house, I go on a trip to the Internet. This is a fascinating place in the universe today. LMAO. I used to sit on boards a lot, but now I've started to get interested in more useful articles and all sorts of life hacks. Sometimes I can afford to pay a little fairspin or play CS. Especially interesting for me was the realization that now everyone is sitting at home. It became mainstream. But I've always been a hikikomori. ToT. How do you handle boredom?

In three decades of computing, I've yet to experience boredom.

That's a pretty good one. I often multitask, which keeps my brain busy if one of the tasks isn't as interesting. For example, if I'm grinding something repetitive in a game, I may have Netflix or a podcast running. Another example is working on commissions while watching TV.

Alternatively, find a project that challenges you, or study something new. There's hundreds of free online courses you can take for almost any subject known to man. They're pretty easy to complete, and sometimes you can get a certificate at the end for a fee, which is a nice little addition to your CV/Resume.

We're not on this earth long enough to be bored. You just have to think a little more about how you want to spend your time.

I agree with you on the 2nd part of your comment. However, I strongly advise against multitasking. It creates attention deficit in the later stages of life due to your brain being constantly bombarded with information from different external inputs.

This leads to a lack of proper concentration and focus on a specific, important task. We are not supposed to multitask no matter how much it's being advertised as a must have skill. There are multiple research papers on this as well as YT videos, Ted Talks for example.

That's a very valid point. However, I would take those studies with a pinch of salt. If you are multitasking every second of the day, across multiple media devices, that's a very different thing from multitasking while drawing a picture (my commission) and listening to a podcast. Multi-tasking is a very overarching term, and should not be overgeneralised like that. When it comes to multi-tasking, you should think about how much time you are spending doing it, and what those activities are. I'm somebody who multi-tasks a lot, but who has had impeccable success in academics over the years, and I have never found it difficult to concentrate.

Another example: While researching for a paper, I would listen to music (usually without lyrics) to help me block out whatever is going on in the room and to relax me. Equally, I could complete research just as well without it. However, it wasn't as fun to do. This may not be the case for everybody, but you should know your personal limitations.

My video gaming + Netflix habits are pretty bad, depending on the task, and I wouldn't recommend doing that long-term. But an hour or two here and there isn't going to harm you.

As with anything, think carefully about it.

Small addition to this post: In terms of job postings asking for multi-tasking - I utterly hate those. What that usually translates to, is taking an in-depth phone call, whilst simultaneously completing a report or filling in an excel spreadsheet. That is total BS, and you will not do either task as well as you could have, if you'd been focusing on the one thing.

That sounds super nice. Do you go abroad or just to places relatively nearby?

If abroad, where have you been? (I won't ask about your nearby cities, because privacy etc)

Playing games, watching movies. Sometimes watching soccer games ( if you're a fan)
