I think that there are various ways that people earn respect. For example, I think that many people earn respect by being very knowledgeable when it comes to a specific topic such as anonymity. Also, you can earn respect by being funny. I have met a lot of people who are respected because they are hilarious, and just generally well-liked. I think there are many approaches to being respected, but being funny, and being knowledgeable are two of the most prominent ones in my opinion.

Depends on the person you ask really, though personally I only show respect to a very small amount of people. People who have an understanding that no matter how talented they are at something, they can be wrong and someone can be better than for example. People who can chose to strongly believe in something and yet state that their faith may be wrong also have my respect. People who are willing to give up everything they have in an instant to be there for someone they care for, people like that tend to earn my respect.
