Numerous theories professing to explain how Donald Trump defeated Hillary Clinton in the 2016 Election have been put forward, however, this may be as honest an answer as you may find.

The Russian APT Group; Cozy Bear, (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cozy_Bear), also known as APT29/The Dukes/The FSB, definitively hacked the DNC, and was observed doing so, by Dutch Intelligence (AVID) the entire time they had access.

The AIVD was not only able to hack the Russian Hacker Groups computers but also the surveillance camera’s present in the building where they were operating.
