Highschool DxD [Review #6]

MAL Synopsis:
Issei Hyodo is your average perverted high school student whose one wish in life is to have his own harem, but he's got to be one of the unluckiest guys around. He goes on his first date with a girl only to get brutally attacked and killed when it turns out the girl is really a vicious fallen angel. To top it all off, he's later reincarnated as a devil by his gorgeous senpai who tells him that she is also a devil and now his master! One thing's for sure, his peaceful days are over. In a battle between devils and angels, who will win?
Story:
Obviously for first timers, this would seem either fascinating or awkward, depending on your mood for ecchi romance. But how they develop the story is what I like. The beginning is a very unusual event, starting with the death of the main character. But he is reincarnated as a devil and assigned to a chess piece, receiving special abilities. He is now a slave working under a woman, a woman he begins to fall in love with. Through training and events, they develop feelings with each other. However, she had been previously engaged with another demon from a different clan. And she, having no interest in him from the beginning, is forced to succumb to his will after a battle between their clans. And as their engagement party takes place, the main character runs in to save his master and is given the decision to fight against him. Using smart tactics, being able to exploit weaknesses to demons, he defeated the "who was to be immortal" antagonist. And so lived a happily ever after.
Art/Sound:
The art style of the show is actually decent. It is set in a high school so everyone has to wear a similar uniform but they all do stand out. Also it is a bit bright at times even when it is supposed to be about demons and other underworld themes, but that just meant be part of the whole "not taking itself to serious" thing.
The sound is also another element that is done well. The background theme does tell what the main character, Issei, is feeling at most times. Also the characters' VO does a great job here; you're able to tell what the characters are portraying at the time they are speaking. The music and other sound doesn't really stand out that much but that might be because they reuse it for both the serious moments and the comedy bits in this show.
Characters:
Our main character is a really horny kid who dies and becomes a devil. He does nothing else than spot for naked chicks he feels no shame what so ever. And he never grows up. But hey if you want a ecchi anime don't complain about the fan service. And who can really blame the guy I mean he is surrounded by females who are constantly naked and even when he fights most of the girls lose their outfits. I think every man would go insane.
The other characters are mostly hot to watch. We see each of them having a special ability compared to chess pieces. Well we have the queen, a hot chick that is incredibly strong witch has a huge chest and enjoys the suffering of people. We have the rook ah little girl witch doesn't speak much and shows hardly any emotion but can break trough any obstacle. We have the bishop a cute girl who can do healing (although her voice sometimes annoyed me she was still a nice addition). The knight witch is a boy who is very fast with his weapon and I have to say the fight between the knights was truly epic I loved how fast they made the fight look simply amazing. And last but not least we have the king, the king is a beautiful woman who is the leader of the clan and who is incredibly powerful. She looks amazing and is most of the time naked. 9
Overall:
Let's be honest, DxD isn't going to be winning any awards but it's entertaining as all hell. It's completely insane, shameless and interesting. I've not had this much fun watching an anime in a while. The fun factor is in it's ability to tell an interesting story and it's comedy, there's also some mighty powerful fanservice for those interested in that. (yes, they have bare uncensored breasts, let's shoehorn that in right now) You'll have a good time watching this anime if you can judge the anime based on it's merits in this genre over the level of fan service. Yes, if you hate fan service, you will be annoyed to the maximum extent but otherwise, it's really very fun. I suggest picking it up and waiting for a second season, it's been ranked pretty high in the preorders and sales department and it's sure to have another season (or two, hopefully). It's not the best anime this season but it's certainly not even close to the worst. Give it a shot.
