Having issues webbrowsing on XCFE Linux #1
Hello everybody, I recently installed XCFE on my chromebook.
I enjoyed customizing the little parts, but once I accessed the internet, everything functioned very clunky
On sinister.ly, the layout looked like it was from vista, and even though I click "log in", I am unable to log in

On youtube, videos wouldn't even play

What is going wrong?

* I apologize for the photo quality. Don't know how to screenshot on Linux, and even if I did, I would have no way of sending it to myself.
I would appreciate any suggestions, as I am fairly new to this

I'm not familiar with that environment, but stating the obvious, have you tried other browsers?

That is what @Percent recommended to me
I have installed firefox 60 ESR.
It's in my downloads section, and I have tried opening it over and over
Yet nothing is happening
The firefox is for linux 64 bit

Try other browsers, Inclusive of different architectures.

I'm trying to establish whether It's the browser or Installation that's causing the Issue.

Mhh, never encounter this type of issue before. I don't think Compton will have anything to do with it.
What GPU do you have mind me asking?

It's a chromebook so integrated.
Also, it's crouton

I ran cruton on a chromebook and noticed a lot of glitchiness, multiple hard drive partitions of like 2mb, weirdly running desktop environment, and only the most updated version of firefox will run properly.
sudo apt-get upgrade
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get install firefox

Was the glitch a screen tear?

He's using NetSurf, a browser that doesn't support JS, and barely supports CSS. It's not made for everyday usage.

@"GosuSang" I don't know why you didn't do your research, but this is what you end up with when you don't. You've installed Ubuntu in a chroot, which isn't even a native install (it's just running on top of ChromeOS). If Ubuntu had a flag, I'd burn it; it's the worst distro ever made. I'd rather use Suicide Linux (https://qntm.org/suicide) than Ubuntu.

Anyway, you should be able a working browser with the following:
Code:
sudo apt-get install midori

However, I highly suggest that you do some research, and install an OS properly instead of in a chroot over ChromeOS; there isn't even any point in using Crouton when ChromeOS already is a GNU/Linux distro. You should look into how to install a an OS properly on your Chromebook instead of following a random tutorial. Here's a good source https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Chrome_OS_devices, and you might also get some device information from here http://www.chromium.org/chromium-os/deve...os-devices.

Also, a note: You said that you don't know how to screenshot in Linux; it depends on the distro, since Linux is simply a kernel.

And this...

You probably downloaded the generic Linux package instead of a package for your distro. You need to run the executable within the tarball, or build it from source.
You haven't installed anything, you've just downloaded a file. I doubt that you've opened it too, you likely have simply repeatedly clicked on it.
Open a terminal, go to your downloads folder, and run "tar -xf your_firefox_file", then go into it and follow the instructions in the README if there are any. Or simply use your package manager to install it instead of Mozilla's download.

Oh boi, Skull told me about Suicide Linux. It's sounds one crazy package.
