Harm Reduction, Psychedelics, and You #1
Psychedelics, drugs which the likes of Aldous Huxley, The Beatles, and Steve Jobs have all touched. Crazy shit, dude. And you've decided to take the plunge and go on your own trip....here's a few things to know.

The Most Important Things To Keep In Mind (TL;DR):

#1: Test your stuff. It's only ~$2 per test, and it can mean the difference between having LSD or some other substance which can be life-threatening. http://www.amazon.com/NIK-Drug-Test-Kit-...002ATUECS/ Getting the right source is the #1 issue with LSD. It's also good to do for other substances like MDMA, etc, but LSD is by far the biggest offender in this area.

#2: Tell at least one friend that you appreciate them, and you would feel very comforted if they read/follow a guide on tripsitting. Ask them if they'd be happy to tripsit. Especially important if you're inexperienced or trying a new dosage level for the first time (1.5 tabs is not the same as 1 tab!).

#3: Be aware of dosage. Different sources for LSD can have very different strengths. Especially take note if you're used to getting street LSD and then you switch to dark net market LSD. The dark net tabs tend to be much higher quality.

Before we get into the bulk of the guide, lets dispel some Psychedelic Myths.

Will I see Pink Unicorns and Elephants that otherwise aren't there?
HELL no. Psychedelia and Hallucinating are two extremely different things. One can be quite enjoyable and intriguing (psychedelia), the other can be extremely dangerous, terrifying, painful, and scary (hallucinations). If you want a break down of the visual effects, PsychonautWiki has a really huge post on this here: https://psychonautwiki.org/wiki/Visual_e...simplistic

Psychedelics are Addictive:
Psychedelics are proven not to be physically addictive whatsoever. Just like with other things, however, they can be 'mentally' addictive. If you start using psychedelics to escape your current reality, for instance, then this is not proper use of the substance. In my opinion, psychedelics should be used as a tool, not anything else. Like Alan Watts said "If you get the message, hang up the phone".

My cousin's brother told me his cousin's uncles' grandfathers brother tried acid once went crazy and jumped from his 10032th story window. I don't want to go crazy, is this going to happen?
Absolutely NOT . Stories like this are rare and most of the time can be even fabricated. It's important to be aware of the risks and safety tips BEFORE your trip. If you are well prepared and follow the tips, tricks, and advice in this guide you should be well on your way to having a safe mind-bending trip.

PREP: What to do before you're trip
Things to have/do:
  • Thick, warm, comfortable blanket
  • Have a Playlist set aside with some chill music, or music that you absolutely love. Not only does it sound amazing, but it keeps your mind in check.
  • Choose a Location deliberately. Trip somewhere you feel comfortable, protected, and empowered. If you don't know what that place may be, maybe it's better not to trip.
  • Set aside time. it's important to have zero obligations all day, and preferably the next as well.
  • Trip only with people you love, accept, and whom you trust..
  • If you are inexperienced, have a tripsitter that knows you and who has experience with these substances beforehand.
  • Call your family. During your trip, you may feel like those people who you love are really, really far away. Call them beforehand just to make sure everything is OK.

Testing
It's of utmost importance to test whatever you have. I cannot stress this enough.

For LSD, I recommend this test kit here: https://www.amazon.com/NIK-Drug-Test-Kit...entries*=0

For MDMA or other substances, Erlich or Marquis regeant test kits are also readily available many places online

It is not uncommon at all for someone to tell you something is LSD but it is not. In fact, they may not even know what it is. This is the highest risk of doing LSD. There are literally dozens of other substances LSD could be.

Dark web vendors have reviews which help ensure what you get is LSD

Set and Setting
Set: a range of psychological factors which may effect your trip
  • past life/drug experience
Previous experiences might effect future ones. A bad LSD trip may induce anxiety for the next trip
  • Current Mind state and Moode
  • Expectations for the Experience
  • Perception of risk associated with Experience

These are all things which may effect your experience. It's important to create a positive set before your trip, and maintain it during the trip.

Setting:
Physical Enviroment: Inside/Outside? This ones pretty self-explanatory. Many agree that tripping outside in nature grants a much better and more high-quality trip, and I recommend going out in nature myself.
Social Enviroment: The people you're with and support they provide. Be in the presence of close friends whom you trust and love.

Dosage
I summarize this thread https://www.reddit.com/r/LSD/comments/2h...0ug1500ug/ up to 150 mics. Go look at the thread, there is a lot of great info.

LSD:
10-25mics - Microdose. Slight Euphoria and Body High
30mics - Threshold
40 mics -> Feeling it, but no visuals
60 mics -> a low quality blotter. "Under Water Feeling". Lights are brighter, colors enhanced, some after images and trails. This is a fun time, but not exactly tripping. About == to a gram of shrooms
90 mics -> Bright colors, surfaces moving, confused or extra wandering thoughts. Distracted thought patterns. Your brain 'speeds up'
110 mics -> A typical high-quality tab. visuals much more obvious. Many varying patterns on the walls, and closed eye visuals are crazy
150 -> If you get this on a tab off the street it's a unicorn. This is a dosage people try to get to get acquanted with L's effects

For Shrooms, use this calculator: https://www.shroomery.org/6257/Magic-Mus...Calculator

Now What?

So you got all this down, now what? If you read through all this and take the proper safety measures, you should be well on your way to a great trip. Here are some general tips:

General Tips
  • Set an intention. You can just go at it w/o anything in specific in mind, but I like to try to focus on something and explore it. IE: "What part of you would you like to explore this time?"
  • Have water handy. This can really be a god-send
  • Bring some healthy snacks. Preferably not anything super-crunchy, though.
  • Look at some art. You won't regret it.
  • Spend some time with your pets. Crazy how much connection you feel with an animal.
  • Try camping
  • Just let go and go with the flow. Let the psychedelic take you where it wants to take you.

Things NOT to do
  • Don't trip with people you don't know
  • Don't Mix Drugs
  • Don't watch horror movies...
  • Drive, or operate any heavy machinery

My Top Movies to Watch Trippin':
Logan's Run
Videodrome
The Thirteenth Floor
Alice in Wonderland

Nice thread you have here; I imagine this would have been very helpful to me if I saw it before tripping for the first time. The only other information I would include is about Tolerance. LSD and Mushrooms are unique from most other drugs that people are familiar with as there is an immediate tolerance you get to the drug after taking it. For example, if I smoke weed on a friday night and then again on saturday, I will feel little to no difference in it's effect. However, if I were to do the same thing with LSD, my second trip wouldn't be nearly as powerful as the one the day before. There is also long-term tolerance, which I find is much more prominent with LSD than any other drug I've used. While you can use LSD every week and it will work... I advise against it. I am currently on a break from L for this very reason - I was abusing it so much that it started to have little to no effect on me.

Other than that GREAT GUIDE KEEP IT UP you seem to know what you're talking about!!!

Thanks man! Good to know this guide may be of use some day.

Thanks for adding on that bit on tolerance, too, totally forgot about that

I don't do stuff like LSD, but being with people you know and trust is a big one. A good friend of mine used to do LSD all the time, and he always made a point to be in comfortable surroundings and with people he knew. It's the same with other substances, especially if its your first time trying them.

Definitely. It's really important to stay in your comfort zone, the moment you step out so many 'unknown/unexpected variables' come up/happen which can be overwhelming/downright terrifying

For the record, there's no difference between hallucinating and what happens when you take LSD, I have no idea where you came up with otherwise. Firstly, psychedelia isn't something that happens while you're high, psychedelia is the name given to a certain sub-culture. Hallucinating is seeing/hearing/feeling things that aren't there, usually while mentally ill or under the influence of drugs. Again, I don't know where you came up with the idea that hallucinating only means extremely dangerous, terrifying, painful, and scary visions. Either way, it doesn't matter what you want to call it; any psychedelic drug is capable of giving its users bad trips.

I believe the way I wrote this was unclear. I did not mean that LSD cannot cause a bad trip or dispelling that you see visuals on LSD. I merely wanted to make people aware that when they take LSD, the visuals are not the be-all-end-all of the trip and that the 'hallucinations' people have are not 'true blue hallucinations'. Being well-prepared, knowing the risks associated with doing the substance, and knowing what to expect/how to handle it will greatly decrease the risk of a 'bad trip'. Hence harm reduction.

To Clear up any Confusion
(and i will change the guide)

Having a bad trip on LSD is more because of the mental aspect than visuals.

When taking LSD, the things you see are not what many would consider 'traditional hallucinations'. What I meant when writing this part of the guide is that you will not feel or see entire objects which are not there (IE, a pink unicorn, people, objects, animals, etc.). There are drugs/situations (maybe PCP or robofrying from coughsyrup)  which are capable of doing this, and there is a reason those drugs are much more dangerous than LSD. As you may imagine, actually believing and seeing another person in a room maybe talking with you is extremely dangerous.

The sensory aspect of LSD (some call 'LSD Hallucinations', visuals, etc), is not referring to, what i'm calling in this guide, 'traditional hallucinations'. Or what some may consider hallucinations (this part of the guide was trying to dispell this myth).. You do not see entire objects created before your eyes, and generally have a very good sense that the crazy shit you're seeing is absolutely not real and is in fact drug induced. LSD hallucinations are made up of patterns, fractals, tracers. That kind of thing. In extremely high doses these patterns totally obscure your vision, whereas on a substance in the more 'traditional' sense of hallucinating, this may not be the case.

The sensory aspect of LSD is more about your senses 'melding together' than a 'true blue hallucination'. Hearing is sharpened, you see objects moving/morphing/patterns, but no monsters rushing at you or people trying to murder you. Though, a thought process may lead you to think this (but it will not be materialized).

The bulk of an LSD experience is not about what you see or hear. The experience is about how the substance makes you feel. Often, people do not have bad trips because of what they are seeing/hearing. People have bad trips because of the mental state in which they take the substance and how they retain that mental state throughout the experience. This is why it is important to understand what you're doing before you take the substance. A bad state of mind when taking LSD will give you a bad trip.
This is why people say not to take LSD after a breakup, or at a turbulent moment in life

TL;DR
What I meant in writing this part is that a "bad trip", or tripping on LSD in general, is not necessarily about the stuff you see, and the stuff you see is not a 'traditional hallucination' like seeing things appear before your eyes. An LSD experience is about what you feel, and thinking from a different perspective.

I hope that made sense, and thanks for pointing that out.
