Hardware Selection (below radar, old tech, does it even matter) #1
TLDR: This is just ramble, want to hear your thoughts on what you would use for three different levels of skill and practice to avoid footprint and blob.

I understand that often when someone asks, what is the best computer out there to do . . . the answer is often, well it depends. (usually on what you are intending to do or where the doing will take place).
I was curious after debating to myself: what are some of the priorities one should consider when selecting hardware for someone new, intermediate, and seasoned in his/her craft.

Comparing old tech, new tech that is geared to be under the radar, and using burners having the knowledge and experience to taylor that hardware to suite your needs.
Concerns, NSA and other company backdoor software and hardware, disabled Intel ME, AMT, and AMD's variation of the blob. Pre win 95 era, linux implemented NSA backdoor when? Intel/AMD and motherboard production.

For someone who wants to browse the web and research -
for this someone may want to research without being tracked or traced or identified. would consist of gaining access to information that is legal or illegal to possess but also would be potential to flagging

For someone who wants to learn hacking and begin practicing what he/she has researched -
for this someone may want to practice what they are learning, be it hacking, dev malicious code, targeting and designing operations for the future

For someone who is ready to actively ready to launch an operation in the field -
for this someone may want to take over a gov agency or company that is conducting themselves illegally or immorally, say hacking for information that could benefit the world or to seize personal interests such as profit

Reason I ask is, I am unexperienced. I am ready to start my reseasrch that is targeted and I do not want attention.

I am considering A Purism or system76 laptop for example. Perhaps a burner from pre 2006 even later, and I want to build a simulated system in which I can actually attack my own network and computer system. Id like to create the entire server rack and have vpn, firewalls, etc and everything I can learn as a secure environment.

Thanks for sharing your thoughts. I know hardware is embedded with intelligence communities and companies having backdoors in motherboards and intel/amd chips. obvously phones too but I am not interested in a mini computer or a phone at this time.

Should I buy a burner off ebay for 100$ thats is pre 2006 era,
Should I not buy off internet entirely but in person, CL or swapmeet
Should I buy a Librem 14 or system76
Should I not get involved at all and just let it be?

sighs

A Thinkpad from 20 years ago or a Raspberry Pi can do the job. You don't need amazing specs to learn a programming language or understand basic security.

Don't be this guy:

My Commodore 64 from 1984 will also do the job.
