What are your thoughts on direct hacking threats?

Like regular threats, there's sometimes validity to them. More often than not, you'll find that threats are pretty empty or meaningless, though. Tongue

I can only agree. If you're truly going to be 'hacked' I don't think they'd directly announce it to you.

Mhm, just as your enemies do their best to remain unknown. If you truly wish harm to somebody you can always kill them with a smile, and kindness. Smile

I saw a quote somewhere along the lines of that. It was similar to "A bullet in the head and knife in the heart won't inflict nearly as much pain as a smile on your face." Or something similar... I'm not a wordy or remember(y) person

A person that tells his enemy of his plan before going through with it is either stupid or has enough faith in himself/herself and the plan that him/her see no way the plan can be a failure even if the enemy knows about it beforehand. This can be used as an illusion for a real plan as well, though what you demonstrated in the opening post is not a threat, its a warning.

"I will hack you if you don't do as I say!" - Threat
"I will hack you!" - Warning

That is at least the way I see it. A threat is something you say to gain something for yourself or to make someone else do something. When it comes to my personal opinion on kids saying this kind of things, then if they say it as a warning I normally would ask them if they actually can do it, followed by asking them what they gain by doing it. If they say it as a threat, I simply reply by saying that threatening will only result in even more loss.

This is how I was when I was about 9, I don't make threats that I cannot fulfill.

I normally don't pay attention to them, more then likely its not a real attack

This is where the difference lies between Scripties and actual hackers.
As a Scriptie might announce the future (but probably fictional) attack to scare the victim, the real hacker will get in, get out, and you will never have heard from him.
So no, I don't think people who tell you they'll hack you actually will.
Spoiler:
Also, I would beat them.
