Google is turning Drive into a much more robust backup tool. Soon, instead of files having to live inside of the Drive folder, Google will be able to monitor and backup files inside of any folder you point it to. That can include your desktop, your entire documents folder, or other more specific locations. The backup feature will come out later this month, on June 28th, in the form of a new app called Backup and Sync.

Yeah...cool in concept. Cool for those that need it. But I'll still to manual backup of all folders. Not that I really use GDrive for anything anyways.

Honestly this sounds like an awful idea. Personally I've always disliked the idea of cloud storage to begin with but even more so with a company such as Google. Yeah they could afford to secure your data with top of the line stuff but at the same time these large companies are most often targeted most frequently. I'll stick to my hard copies where I can monitor activity rather than handing it over to a free and popular service.

There goes your anonymity. And your desktop does contain a folder with your Local Account username.

Who knows what else It scans without user-permission.

Yeah I don't think that'll work...

Between all my various google accounts I have a little over 500gb of storage, I organize, encrypt, and spoof any files stored and only shit like ebooks, images and misc. files that I don't really need but still want access to.
