Starting a file uploading site that allows everyone to upload a single file at a time and can upload up to 100mb files. It's designed to be simple.

So, here's what I want to start out with as far as a server goes.

• 1GB Memory
  
• 1 Core Processor
  
• 30GB SSD Disk
  
• 2TB Transfer
  
• 100GB SSD Block Storage (additional)
  

I also plan on adding a load balancer at the end of the month. I think it'll be about two months before I need to add 100GB additional block storage.

Are these good specs for starters?
Should I run Apache or Nginx for this type of site?

Nginx is more light weight. I think that should be enough, but if you're starting an upload service you're going to need more than 130GB storage, though that will be enough for the first weeks/maybe even months depending on how much people will use your service.

What software will you be using? Will you be using the pomf software as upload site, since I think that is pretty lightweight.
I think a GB should do the trick, but you should check out what your server does under stress testing. This is where you can actually use DDos attacks for. Not for taking someone's site offline like a skid, but checking if your website can handle big loads of traffic.

Beware that you don't use too much of your bandwith though. Also are you using custom scripts you wrote yourself or existing ones?

Nowadays, 130GB of storage Is nothing, you need to look at this from a long-term standpoint. If you decide to Increase the maximum single file size upload, your capacity will get chewed In no time at all.
