I'm currently using a 10 year old laptop with 32GB RAM... For reasons I do not know. Nothing I use this for requires anywhere close to 32GB. The other components are much to old (or not powerful enough) to keep up with any program/game that would need RAM like this xDThat's Insane. 32 GB for a 10-year-old laptop Is almost nonexistent.
In terms of my usability, I run simultaneous VMs, which chew a lot of memory. As you can see In the Image above, I have the option to hit 64 GB.
Due to advancements In computing, there's more demand on system resources and memory Is the first to feel the Impact.
