If you're referring to the crash that occurred on launch date, yes I do believe that they should have expected much more traffic than they did. However, if you mean the fact that there is compromised accounts implies a weak infrastructure on the companies part, that is entirely the fault of the users. People use the same password for everything, which is what allows accounts like this to be taken over. If someone uses the same password for every site, including ones that have poor security and are susceptible to being breached, then there is very little the company can do to stop people from cracking those accounts.
