How hard has it been for you to game on Linux, and how hard would it be for a beginner to be able to game on linux?

It seems simpler now we've Proton, but it's still a pain for me on my Quadro M2000M GPU...

I never tried playing games on Linux , but I’ve seen many people plays on Linux with ease.

If you're playing on mainstream platform it's really easy. All you've to do is managing Proton-GE versions with asdf and configure the platform to use it. It may not be the optimal way to do it, but it works in most cases imo.
