Full coverage? #1
Just curious, how many of you younger folks have full coverage on your cars(25 and under)? I've done my 1yr of insurance and it's renewal time but I'm really debating keeping it... It's 324 if I keep it or 260 if I don't. Car cost about 7.5k. Any thoughts? Some insights on your own experiences would help me decide. I have a month ish left to confirm what I'll be going with for the new policy.

I feel like full coverage is worth it in your earlier years of driving more so than in the latter as risk for accidents is higher. Normally people debate this on the basis of whether they can actually afford it. If you're able to afford it and are happy to sacrifice a few takeaways each month, I would do it.

However, I have yet to own a car. Perhaps more experienced members can chime in.

For peace of mind, It's better to be on the safe side and keep It.

You never know what may happen In future.

You're absolutely right. I can technically afford it, but it'd mean paying off my student loans etc... a bit slower.

I've only had my g2 for a year, about to go for my G in about 3 weeks so I'm still fairly 'new' I guess.

The last thing you need Is to have an accident that's your fault, and having to pay for damages In the thousands.

Full coverage is definitely worth it for any car worth over $1-2k. What happens if you happen to get into a wreck? You'll be stuck with scrap that won't even cover a down payment for another car. What if someone runs into you, which causes you to hit the person in front of you? It wasn't your fault, but it would still fall on your insurance as well. The point of full coverage is so you can get another car if something happens to yours. For peace of mind, just do it.

Also I'd shop around to see if you can find a better rate. Even at 16, driving a slow sports car (~6.5k), my insurance at most was like $180 a month for full coverage. I have a clean driving record, but $300+ seems a bit extreme.

I suspect this may depend on where you live. My insurance would have cost me a lot more than that in the UK. And for a regular car...

This ^

I've had a couple of accidents where I was at fault, and I was so grateful I opted for full/comprehensive Insurance.

Rule of thumb, if you dont own it out right,, full coverage is the best option.
