If you are interested in free hosting in the USA, then from personal experience I can recommend several options: weebly, freehostia. What tasks do you set? Free hosting is not reliable, so monitor the site host-tracker.com/InstantCheck/Create/ This tool will help you quickly track problems and receive notifications.

Netlify will let you host for free. As well as Github Pages. Depends on the site you are trying to set up. Is it static, or dynamic? If it is static, Netlify/Github Pages are the way to go. If it is something dynamic, like a forum or something, your best bet would be to get a cheap computer and run the server at home if you want cheap. Otherwise most places charge for it
