Fixing Hard-Drive With Windows 8 ISO #1
There are a number of errors that could happen to your computer, and here's how to fix two.

Dependencies
  • Windows 8 ISO
  • CD, DVD, or USB

Load the ISO onto your CD, DVD, or USB. You'll want to boot from this, so when your computer starts up, access your Built-in Operating System, or BiOS for short.

Once inside the BiOS, edit the system configuration. You'll want to edit the boot order to have the device you have the ISO on selected as first/primary. Once finished, save your settings and finish the startup.

Once it has loaded, you will click on repair, assuming you already have Windows 8. With the error at hand, you will troubleshoot your PC, and click on advanced options. We'll be using command prompt for this, so obviously, click command prompt.

This is where the road splits, go ahead and read the part for your specific error below. There are only two in this tutorial, for the sake of simplicity. And they're both specified to partition errors.

Partition Error - Selected the Wrong Partition as Main

If you selected the wrong partition to be used as the main partition, you get off easy, all you have to do is type a few things, and you're done.

Once command prompt has opened, type 'diskpart'. This allows us to view and edit our settings and such. This may take a little while too load the feature, however, not too long. Once it has loaded, type out 'list disk', this will list the disk that we have on our device.

If there is one disk, type 'select disk 0'. If there is more than a single disk, it's probably best to go with 0 unless you know the exact number your OS is on.

Next, you will need to set the partition. Just type 'list partition', and type 'select partition ', followed by the number the partition your OS should use as main. Now just restart your device, and you'll be fine.

Partition Error - Invalid Partition

This is a little harder to deal with, and is what I had. You will go to command prompt, and type 'diskpart'. Select disk 1 by typing 'select disk 0'. This sets our main disk to 0, or the internal, or at least that's what it should be.

Now, type out 'list partition'. If the partition you need to use reads out as invalid, or has a star under dyn, you have an invalid partition and/or is locked.

Sadly, I had three of four partitions locked, so I lost a lot. Anyways, you'll want to clean your disk. To do so, type 'clean disk ', followed by the disk number.

Now your disk is completely wiped, and is valid once more. Restart your device, and be sure to boot with CD/DVD/USB ROM again. You'll now see the install wizard once again, this time, click install now.

It should direct you automatically to the driver/disk chooser. If so, great, you're in luck. If not, you probably don't have your installation media hooked up/in your device. Just put it back, and restart your computer.

Now, just wait for it to install. This takes a very long time for Windows 8, and has several restarts. Once it's finished, just follow the wizard from there.

Sadly, you won't have any files, but on the bright side, there's no need to pay people to fix your laptop, nor is there a need for a new one.

End

That's the end, really simple, and kind of hard depending on your experience. Anyways, hope this was helpful.
