The government doesn't own the internet, and hopefully will never control it.
On the other hand, I'm curious to see what will happen when/if they try this.

They are going to censor it, the US government can, and will censor it better than any half baked 3rd world country.
Any government with sufficient technology can censor the internet (e.g. China, North Korea, Singapore), but America is one of few, if not the only country that will do it solely for profit and an attempt at subjugating the ISPs and cable networks they gave a near eminent domain and let grow vastly out of control. But the FCC is stupid, so it's mainly for profit because manifest destiny.
