There's a lot to be said for other forms of renewable energy, especially in coastal places like the UK. A lot of offshore wind farm opportunities as well. However, as always, there are pros and cons. Environmentally there is heck of a lot of controversy with wind turbines. However, self-sustainability and negative prices in energy is pretty appealing. Solar power is also becoming more and more commonly used, again due to the money saving aspect long-term.

Many states here in the US that use green energy actually hate when this does occur (it's rare but does happen), so to help avoid this and to stop the spread of people self powering themselves with green alternatives, states have adopted laws where if at anytime your useage goes negative you are considered a business and therefor if you do not have a license they can literally come do a number of things to you and your property (fines, jail, forced removal of devices) that is if you even live in a state that allows you to use green alternatives (solar panels, wind turbines, water turbines).
