Where are you located? Over the years I've come across some good choices for Canadians.

Nowadays I personally use Coinbase and just have my debit card linked. There are or course other ones, but it's been the most convenient for me.

There's no way to get both low fees and anonymous. Trading secondlife skins for bitcoins (it could be via paxful, i forget the name of the service) is the most anonymous but involves like 20% fees. Services that utterly dox you like coinbase have very low fees.
You can look for a bitcoin ATM on Google Maps and see if there's one in your area that won't require ID but they'll probably be equipped with a camera and their fees are guaranteed to be above 10%.

You can get bitcoins cheaply or anonymously but not both.

I tried to convince Oni to set up a bitcoin trading escrow service right here on Sinisterly but he hasn't gotten back to me.

I'd recommend getting a wallet independent from an exchange and then purchasing bitcoin via sellers on Localbitcoins, that don't require an ID or any of the associated KYC documents. An alternative would be purchasing bitcoin in cash, although always meet in a public place. Also, be careful of any scams, e.g. whilst counting your notes they might swap some for replicas and ultimately the transaction fails. Even though you may think you're walking away with your own notes, you could be walking away with replicas. Better be safe than sorry.
