So me and my friend were having this discussion about downloading hacked databases.
His arguments:
>everything,  downloading it eventhough it already leaked before is illegal.

My argument:

What are your thoughts on this matter?

Downloading a leaked database is perfectly legal, albeit not looked upon with great opinions. You weren't the one that hacked it, you haven't done anything malicious to it. That's just my opinion.

In the law eyes it can be seen as illegal for obvious reasons you have people's private information without them either letting you or knowing in some cases. But in my opinion meh who cares.

Ive been reading a ton of news articals the past few days (they interviewed media and law experts)
And they all have this mixed opinion. But they all point out that similair court cases were won by the downloaders and not the media/site side( I hope this makes sense),

Yeah, so many mixed opinions regarding this. I personally would go for that this is a small risk depending on what you do with it.

Not illegal to download them but its illegal to get them!

I think, the thing you use them for is the only thing that will get you in trouble just like what Sirius said. Since th only illegal action that was commited was trespassing ( Hacking the site ). Furthermore, the database will be part of the public property the moment it gets published as it isnt a copyrighted piece of info/technology, which makes downloading the database legal.

Thats most of the stuff I could find out about this legal matter.

In my opinion, it's not illegal to download it, but is to hack it. You're right(imo) on this matter.
