Donating Blood #1
Just got back from my blood donation. I do it twice a year, does anyone else donate blood?

I get calls about it all the time because I have O Negative blood. Which means anyone can receive my blood, but it also sucks because I can only receive O Negative, and it's pretty rare.. So yeah.

Oh. That's weird. I have never given blood, however I was planning on doing it next year, but I am afraid to now. My friend Kevin donated blood last year to the Red Cross, we do blood drives at my school at least twice a year. when he did it, they "missed" the vein or something like that, so they wiggled the needle around in his arm, (seriously) to find it, and hit a nerve. they caused permanent nerve damage to his arm and now it has less feeling than his other arm. I am now afraid of donating blood, and was astonished to hear that story. he said he was upset more because of how terribly the Red Cross volunteers treated him. He is donating his blood, and they just treated him like a doll and ended up permanently damaging him. So, I might think twice now.

However, that is not common and a lot of people I know give blood. It is a good way to help others who are in need and to find out if you have any basic problems (High blood pressure, low/high blood sugar, etc) and a free HIV/AIDS and a few other STD tests... If you think you need that? haha, so I don't want to have anyone not donate blood because of my story, but just something to be aware of.

Are you stalking me????

I donated yesterday (I did a double donation) and I'm also O neg.....

Also, O- can ONLY donate to negative blood types. O positive can only donate to all positives. O+ is the most common type but negative in general is extremely rare comparatively! Out of the negatives, O- is one of, if not, the most common blood types.

I did a double donation which means they didn't take out twice the blood but they take out the red blood platelets (which is what people actually need when receiving blood). So I only lost the same amount of blood because they gave me back a lot of blood after taking the platelets! Pretty cool, huh?

I usually donate once every 3 or 4 months and have for the past four(ish) years.

^This. Correct.

I can not donate since in Germany you have to be 18 years old or older.

Actually, I'm correct. If you don't believe me do a Google search. Or click this link. http://library.thinkquest.org/04oct/01716/types.htm

Anyways, I do a blood donation as often as possible. I get a free t shirt so why not?

I had a lot of points in there... What are you right about? That O- can donate to any positives? If so, how can that be if positive and negative bloods clump up when they come in contact? Mothers and their fetus' have trouble when the mother has the baby if they have different a RH blood type. The mother has to be given a shot so that their blood can flow together with no problems!

I have done a lot of research on blood types and I KNOW that is false. O+ can donate to any positive blood types but can only receive from O+. O- can give to any negative but can only receive from O-.
