Why do other opinions matter if you're the one trying to watch the show?

If something is notoriously "bad", that's just a common consensus. As a viewer, you can try and appreciate what often goes underappreciated and pick up subversive messages.

This doesn't just apply to anime or any show, but in all rounds of life.

It includes anything that can be reviewed. Products, food, shows, books, and services.

Try it yourself before you are quick to agree.

I agree with you and it's a good point, the only way to really know if something will be good or bad is by watching it. If everyone has their own set of standards and preferences, then somebody else's opinion becomes invalid.

I generally look them up, although I am always skeptic of reviews. There's lots of gems out there.

I usually just watch the first couple of episodes and if it seems like the story just isn't getting anywhere or if the anime itself is just not good quality I don't watch it.
