Random question for random discussion. This may have been asked in the past but as it's been a while let's make a new thread. A lot of people will have some allergies or another, whether it be food, pets, dust, seasonal or something more obscure!

I suffer from:

• Pet allergies (mostly allergies to their saliva as opposed to the fur)
  
• Allergenic rhinitis - seasonal allergies (basically allergic to a lot of pollen types and mold spores)
  
• Perfume
  
• Dust (isn't everyone?)
  
• Some kind of wood dust
  

My poor Mum, while pregnant with me, was almost hospitalised due to her allergies as my Dad took her to a friends farm. She is very allergic to a lot of animals and he didn't warn her they lived on a farm. 10/10 adulting.

Anyone got any really weird allergies of allergy stories?

Pet allergies in the form of skin rashes for me. One time, I spent two weeks living in a house with a dog. It was pretty nice, but by the end of that time, I had itchy & red skin all over my body. That experience made me realize that I will never be able to have a pet (which is unfortunate, because I always wanted to get a black german shepherd someday). Oh well, I guess I'll stick to petting cats in the streets

To be honest, I don't suffer from any allergies and I'm very thankful for that.

An excessive amount of dust may cause me to sneeze at times, but I wouldn't class It as an allergy - It's a perfectly normal reaction under the circumstances.

i used to be so allergic of sea foods...
anything red sea food would give me itchy red skin marks.
crabs, shrimps.. i don't have an idea how it went away..at least now i can enjoy my shrimp!

Is it possible for someone to not have any allergies?

Personally, I haven't encountered any allergic reactions to anything and I'm very grateful for that, but it just makes me wonder if I've been lucky so far and haven't encountered that one thing I'm allergic to.

Have you tried spending time with hypoallergenic breeds of cats/dogs? That's actually how I discovered I was allergic to the saliva and not the fur xD

Perfectly possible. You could still have an allergy hidden in your genetics, or even develop one later in life. For now, just enjoy not having any!

How bizarre! Was it a childhood allergy? Sometimes people will simply "grow out" of an allergy. Other times the allergy response is triggered because your body is already facing inflammation or another trigger, which then heightens a response to anything else that could trigger you. If that original trigger is gone, it can diminish the manifestation of an allergy.

For example, a relative of mine was suffering from a perfume allergy (due to perfumes in their shower gel and shampoo), which made all their other allergies really intense. Like seasonal allergies, eczema, pet allergies. They had to go on antibiotics and steroids for a long time. After two years of this, the docs finally worked out what it was, gave them a new type of shower gel and shampoo and they recovered almost completely in a matter of 1-2 weeks.

I actually didn't know there even was such a thing as hypoallergenic breeds of pets xD. Definitely something for me to look into!

Generally they're breeds that have hair instead of fur (they're so soft!). There's a lot of terriers, schnauzers and poodles that are hypoallergenic.
