It's certainly a hot commodity for gamers.

It'll be Interesting to see whether there's a performance drop due to the external connectivity.

This sounds pretty clever and cool. Perhaps this will be more of a norm for gaming machines. I think I still vastly prefer what I've just purchased with an RTX 2060 in it, but I can see the appeal of getting a 3080 hooked up and ready to go and still be able to fit it in your backpack.

One thing I just don't get: Why is it so popular for laptops to flip the keyboard back and be used as a tablet? I've owned tablet devices in the past, and just don't see the appeal. In all honesty, I'll never buy a tablet for the rest of my life, especially if I have a mobile phone and a laptop. What's gap is the tablet filling??
So, I am struggling to see the appeal of making a fully functioning laptop behave like a lesser PC counterpart? If that makes sense?

It would be a great way to make more money from laptops. It could be a like a Pandora bracelet lol. You get the larger item first (the bracelet/the base laptop) then you could get additional items later (the charms/ the external gpu). For example, once I've bought a laptop, I won't be needing any more PC components for a long time (until the current laptop dies out). With the EU and other organisations putting pressure on tech companies to reduce electronic waste and stop making products with planned obsolescence, this could be a good way to supplement profits.
