The Basics
DayZ has a graphical HUD that gives players a basic run-down about what is happening to your character, your stats, and some server information.
Debug Monitor
The debug monitor is one of the most important things to DayZ. It displays your zombie kills, headshots (on zombies only), murders (player kills), amount of bandits you have killed (explained further on), your exact blood level which can be viewed as your hitpoints, also the amount of zombies alive on the server is displayed. In addition to these statistics, you can see your player's name which can be changed via the Arma 2 main menu player profile editor.
Temperature
During the day, your temperature will remain white with a possible red tint. That means that you are at an average temperature or even warm. If it ever gets a tint of blue or is flashing, you will want to use a heatpack. Heatpacks will change the icon to white with a tint of red again. If it ever becomes flashing or has a tint of blue, you will start to experience the symptoms of hypothermia. You risk getting sick every second you are cold, which can only be cured with antibiotics. Also, when cold you will shake, causing a problem when trying to aim down your sight to kill zombies (or survivors).
Thirst
Your thirst gague will be one of the first ones to become red/flashing. It is drained by running and mostly just living. To make sure that the gague is green (healthy status) you must drink water or a soda can. These can be found in various locations which will be explained further on into the basics.
Blood
The gague for blood is not that important. When you are looking at your blood, you should be looking at the debug monitor and not the icon. You want to have exact values on it. You want your blood to be at 8,000 or more while playing since most guns/snipers will hit you for 8k+ damage. To regenerate blood, you must either receive a blood transfusion (through a blood bag) from an ally or eat food. There are two different foods that give two different blood values. Cooked meat will give you 800 more blood and canned food will give you 200 blood. There is a cap of 12000 blood at anytime in your system.
Hunger
Your hunger is drained the same as your thirst. It goes a little bit slower. In both cases, if your hunger or thirst gague if flashing then you have roughly 15-30 minutes until you will start to lose blod (10 blood per second) until you finally die.
Weapon/Ammo
This shows what your weapon currently is. In addition to your ammo, it will show how many bullets you have left in your clip and then next to that is how many clips you have in your backpack for that weapon. If you are using silenced mags (only work in silenced guns, but can still be used in regular guns) then you will see "SD" next to your ammo.
Mouse-Wheel Menu
Normally all important actions are located here. Gear, taking specific loot, entering/leaving vehicles, turning engines off, etc... The majority of the important functions of the game are located here. Not the absolute basics, but the more important complex actions.
Map/Navigation
In this section, we're going to go over ways of mapping and navigating around on the map. To start things off, I'll go over ways you can find where North is!
The easiest way to find North is if you're a fresh spawn on the coast. If you spawn between Kamenka and Otmel near the ocean, north is directly opposite of the ocean. If you spawn anywhere more north of Otmel, following the coastline is north.
Cloud in DayZ always travel from West to East. Therefore align yourself appropriately to find North.
The easiest ways is to use a compass or GPS. Simply open them and they well tell you.
Using stars
Find the Big Dipper constellation
Draw a line from the 2 bottom stars and keep drawing this line upwards
The next star you'll get is Polaris, the Northern Star
These are the easiest ways to quickly orientate yourself. Now, the following info is coming from a guy who has been on trips in the backcountry days away from civilization and using only a map and compass to figure out where I'm going so I'd say I have a bit of background in navigation. So anyway, now that you have properly orientated yourself, you need to figure where exactly you are.
There are a few ways to figure out where you are, and most need a compass and a map ( you can use dayzdb.com/map if you don't have an in game one )
Firstly, do a quick 360 view and take in your surroundings. This could be things like a mountain, barn, big patch of trees in an open area, or even a town.
Using this mental image you've created in your mind, open up your map and look for those landmarks. So say you saw two big mountains in front of you and a lake. Now what you need to do is point your compass at these landmarks and look for the little number that aligns on the compass with the landmark. This is your bearing, right it down. Do it for three landmarks and then hit M to go to your map.
Finally, take the compass and align with the mountains/lakes you saw and draw an imaginary line all three times. It will create a triangle of sorts and you will be in that triangle somewhere.
An extremely easy and non realistic way to find where you are aswell, is to run into a town, disconnect, then reconnect and it will tell you about where you are. I find this to be cheap but eh, I guess it is just a video game.
Vehicles
Odds are, if you are one of the lucky few to have a vehicle in DayZ, you are a pretty experienced player. Vehicles are quit rare around Chernarus and the most annoying part of all is that every vehicles spawns in need of some sort of repair.
The following are all the vehicles that can be found in DayZ
ATV
Bus
Old Bike
GAZ
Motorcycle
Offroad Pickup Truck
Old hatchback
Pickup Truck
S1203 van
Skoda
Tractor
UAZ
Ural Civilian
V3S Civilian
UH-1H Huey
Fishing Boat
Small Boat
PBX
Player vs Player
It wouldn't be en exagerration to say that players are much more dangerous than zombies. This game has evolved to the point where people in game don't even bother trying to be friendly, but more by discussing with fire shots. Considering this, it is crucial to understand the fundementals of DayZ Player vs Player combat and tactics. This section will be dedicated to it.
There are three types of players in DayZ. They are the following
Bandit: A player who kills other players for one reason or the other is technically a bandit. Though they all may have different reasons to kill said player, they are all considered murder. Some bandits kill for the sheer thrill of it, some kill to gain valuable gear, but all in all, bandits should be given extreme caution. As a bandit myself with a pretty strong squad and gear many Survivors would have wet dreams over, I advise you to not spray that shiny new Lee Einfeld you just picked up. Bandits can be distinguished by their white scarf they wear which they get when they have low humanity or kill other players.
Survivor: Survivors are what you spawn as when you get washed up on the south coast of Chernarus. You have many options on what to do as a Survivor. You can go try and be a bandit, attempt to become a hero, or run up North and try and make a nice camp for yourself. The possibilities are endless for you!
Hero: A hero is a player whom has contributed to other players in one way or the other. They are essentially the opposite of what a bandit is. A survivor can become a Hero by reaching a humanity of 5000 which will grant them the blue shirt that defines them as a Hero. One can increase their humanity by giving other players blood transfusions, morphine, painkillers, epipens, and bandages. A little known fact about Hero's is that they can run faster than the average bandit or survivor.
Thank you for reading My information was found in and around the web searching through the best tips and tricks also sun information i was not aware about.
