"I've always felt alone my whole life, for as long as I can remember..."
What is it?
Cry of Fear is a psychological survival-horror FPS game by Team Psykskallar. Originally made as a mod for Half-Life, it became a standalone game throughout it's four years of development. It features a full single player experience, multiple endings, an epilogue story-tied 2-4 player co-op mode (which you can play by yourself if you'd like), and 12 different custom campaigns, You can read more information about it on the developer's website. Best of all, it's free!
What is it about?
Single Player
You play as Simon Henriksson, a 19 year old man who wakes up in the streets after being hit by a car. Seemingly alone as if everyone in the world vanished, he wanders around until he encounters strange and horrific monsters, hellbent on killing him. Simon searches for answers in this bizarre, uncanny world, chasing after the only two figures that stand out - his childhood friend Sophie, and a violent doctor who seems to know the truth behind the world.
Cooperative
Police officers find a memoir of Simon's, entitled Simon's Book. Reading the book, they find themselves transported into Simon's memories, encountering the strange monsters that Simon himself fought. Fighting through time itself, the officers traverse backwards through Simon's events, hoping to reverse the tragedy that befell Simon before he began his terrifying journey.
Where can I download it?
You can download it for free on Steam.
Final notes
It's absolutely great - a cross between Half-Life's gameplay and Silent Hill's atmosphere. Whether you're a fan of survival horror, looking for a good story, or anything else, I'm sure this game will fit right up your alley. If you're looking for something to play while waiting for Half-Life 3 a certain game to come out, try this out.
