Does anyone like it?
I think that openbox is kind of gross, but I'm hoping to be proven wrong.
I don't think I gave myself enough time to try it, but I have a lot of friends who love it.

No. Openbox, Awesome, DWM, and all the super "minimalist" wms aren't for me.

Elementary OS is Ubuntu. The only main difference between the stock desktop version of Ubuntu and this "elementary OS" is that Ubuntu has Unity. Even with this being said, they're both using gnome so even if you don't like unity you could just switch back to the defualt gnome interface.
