Not a problem! Biggrin
Do you by chance have any requests for what I should post a tutorial about next? Even if it's a tutorial for something that you haven't heard of being taught about before it'll work. I'd prefer it if it was something like "How to secure this" or "How to secure that"... Do you get what I mean?

And good job for setting it up. You wont be notified until Google indexes a page with your alert information.

I think another good tutorial would be how to limit what information someone could find on you by doxing you or how to get rid of information already out there. Much of limiting what information out there is self preservation by hiding behind multiple emails and/or usernames and keeping them well away from your real identity but I'm sure there would be enough substance with personal tips and tricks to make it an interesting guide for people who are not familiar with the topic.

Not a bad idea.
I could do a tutorial on mixing up your information so it isn't in the wide open, too. For example, planting fake accounts such as Facebook, Twitter, MySpace, MeetMe, Spring.Me, DeviantArt, and so on. It also never hurts to release a fake yet convincingly real dox on your alias as well since most doxers will check if a dox has already been made on you first, and if they spread the fake one around... Well... You're even more hidden than you were before in a sense.

Is that kind of what you had in mind, but with more detail?

That was what I had in mind essentially. Being able to mask yourself from doxing and find ways to make the information that you found through a self dox seem fake to question the accuracy of the data collected.

@"kasakari", I think that I'll end up creating tutorials for everything we spoke of above, but right now I'll work on creating an all-out "Preventing Doxing By: Securing Your Facebook" thread... Or maybe I'll just go with a title like "Securing Facebook Accounts" instead)

I'm thinking that it'll be like a normal securing Facebook tutorial, but more interactive and fun. The thing that will be cool about my tutorial is that not only will it help you secure your Facebook so people can't see your information, but we'll also make it so we have some fake information on there to throw potential doxers or 'curious fellows' off. For example, say you're from Holland - Instead say that a certain somewhat large town in Belgium is your hometown, and have your current city set as a big city 20-30 minutes away from there. Doesn't that seem like relatively realistic information that you could fall for?

But let's stop getting off-topic now. Thank you for the help, man! I really do appreciate it.
Have a good night!

Today I'll be teaching you guys a method for countering a dox that has been made of you. We will be doing so with Google Alerts!
And if you didn't notice the link masked with "Google Alerts", here's the URL where you can find this page at: http://www.google.com/alerts

What is a dox?

Spoiler:

All content in this spoiler was pulled directly from my other thread regarding doxing: Maxx's Anti-Dox Handbook. If you haven't read it already, you should give it a read sometime or another.

NOTE: You only have to read the definitions for this tutorial. The rest isn't necessary in this spoiler unless you want to read it all.

1.1 - My definition:

--------------------------------------------------------------
A dox is a document containing the personal information of a certain individual, or even a group of individuals. It is a common practice among "doxers", the people who do the doxing, to post this information publicly on places such as Pastebin, DOXBIN, and many other websites. If posted in the right place, this information can officially be obtained by virtually anyone online. If on a site like DOXBIN, the law wont even help you get it taken down.

EXAMPLE:
Guy 1: Dude, did you hear that chmod person got doxed!?
Guy 2: No, way! I thought chmod was undoxable!
Guy 3: I guess it's possible to dox anyone if you set your mind to it...
Note: @"chmod" wasn't actually doxed.
--------------------------------------------------------------

1.2 - Urban Dictionary's Definition:

--------------------------------------------------------------
Source
Doxing -

Doxing is a technique of tracing someone or gather information about an individual using sources on the internet. Its name is derived from “Documents” or “Docx”. Doxing method is based purely on the ability of the hacker to recognize valuable information about his target and use this information to his benefit. It is also based around the idea that, “The more you know about your target, the easier it will be to find his or her flaws”

EXAMPLE:
Well yeah, he is saying he is doxing me and he talked about one of my youtube channels (he's never talked to me before)
--------------------------------------------------------------

1.3 - What information does a dox contain?

--------------------------------------------------------------
The personal information contained in doxes can consist of the following: names, aliases, birth dates, pictures, phone numbers, addresses, SSNs/SINs, usernames, passwords, IP addresses, MAC addresses, family information, emails, IDs, birth certificate information, ISP information, credit information, chat logs, and much more.

In a dox pretty much anything goes.
--------------------------------------------------------------

1.4 - A Dox Victim's Scenario

I was going to write my own scenario, but I liked this one better. (provided by Allen Freeman at WonderHowTo)

--------------------------------------------------------------
You are arguing with some stranger on Facebook and it gets heated. You walk away that night angry, but tired, and you go to sleep. A few days later, your phone rings, waking you. Ignoring the first call, it starts to ring again. You answer it only to be hung up on. You think, "wrong number" and lay back down.

The ringing doesn't stop though and after few hours, your doorbell rings. As you open the door, you greet a pizza deliverer with ten pizzas you did not order. What's going on here? This continues on and off for a week until one day you're at the store and your debit card gets declined. Rushing home to check your account, you discover in horror it's overdrawn!

You know where this dark road goes. Now you must start the process of fixing your stolen identity. Sorting out your bank mess and trying to get things back in order so life can go on. Not an easy task in this day and age.
--------------------------------------------------------------

What is Google Alerts you ask?

Spoiler:
Google Alerts is a content change detection and notification service, offered by the search engine company Google, that automatically notifies users when new content from news, web, blogs, video and/or discussion groups matches a set of search terms selected by the user and stored by Google.

In other words, when a new page gets indexed on Google that includes your name, address, or whatever you set it to notify you with, you get emailed that webpage and the contents of it.

This will help us because if we get doxed and someone posts the dox on Pastebin or something, the dox gets sent directly to our email and we can head on over to that paste and report it/start changing/removing whatever is on there. For example, if someone shares your Facebook account in that dox, you'll know to delete or deactivate your Facebook account.

NOTE: You can set up any number of Alerts (up to 1000 per email address) to help you monitor online activity for the search terms of your choice.

What to first expect:

Spoiler:
When you first go to Google's alert page, you'll be presented with a screen that looks just like this:

How to configure your alert options:

Spoiler:
You will want to change some of the options for your alerts for optimized results.

Step One: Change the How Often option to say "As-it-happens" instead of "Once a day".

What this will do is make it so you get alerted as things pop-up with minimal delay.

Step Two: Change the How Many option to say "All results" instead of "Only the best results".

This will make Google alert you with everything that is indexed involving your search results rather than only some things.

Step Three: Add your email into the "Your email" box (duh)

What to add for the search query option:

Spoiler:
Try to be as precise as possible. The more precise your search terms are, the more relevant your alerts will be. And if you're trying to counter a dox, I suggest that you make some alerts for your name, address, phone number, aliases, and whatever other personal information of yours that you think would be in a dox.

Use quotes around a group of words if you are looking for them together.

Examples:
  • "white house"
  • "Mike Smith"

Put quotes around a single word to match that word precisely as you typed it, excluding synonyms and spelling variations.

Examples:
  • "foard" (to stop Google including results for Ford)
  • Michael "Jacson" (to stop Google including results for Michael Jackson)

Use a minus sign (-) in front of words that you want to exclude.

Examples:
  • paris -texas
  • apple -fruit

Use the site: operator to limit your search to specific sites.

Examples:
  • physics site:.edu
  • congress site:nytimes.com

Use the site: operator with a dash to exclude specific sites.

Example:
  • "joe bloggs" -site:twitter.com

Use the inurl: operator to find the results from within the URL.

Example:
  • inurl:yournameorsomething
