RE: College Life #11
I find it nothing like highschool. In terms of maturity, people's motives, classes, what people are worrying about... etc. Highschool is a lot of gossip, rumors, everyone worried about everyone else, but no one really gives a shit what you're up to in college because we all have our own shit to worry about. Most people grew up enough to realize it's not fucking important. A lot of freshmen are still fucks though as they are just beginning to assimilate into a new, more grown-up environment.

As for classes, I know myself and what seems like every other highschooler never studied for tests or put much time into homework and were able to still make good grades, but in college, all I did was fucking study and fucking homework. Emphasis on the fucking because it's so much fucking bullshit that it actually starts becoming detrimental to the learning experience. I found that classes where I had a reasonable amount of homework, I actually learned better in and enjoyed the experience more. Once I start getting absurd amount of homework I need to start figuring out ways to BS my way through or cheat rather than being able to sit down, relax, and learn some new things (because, you know, I'd actually have time for that). I feel like a damn rocket scientist coming to that conclusion because professors seem to be fucking clueless and think for maximum efficiency in learning they need to give as much shit as possible. Fucking morons.

I relate with this on a spiritual level. Currently at the "So much fucking work I have to figure out ways to BS my way through". It's a bit difficult in mathematics and science classes, though. Not like I can just make up shit and write a paper about it.

What did you do?

College is insane, although I like it millions better than HighSchool. Highschool is just a clusterfuck of angsty insecure teenagers with teachers who don't give a fuck (at least in US public school)

I could BS through any class. Even my math classes, For example, in calc I would get so much HW full of integrals and derivatives that doing each problem legitimately would take upwards of 4 hours on a single assignment which is fucking ridiculous for stuff like that especially when it's daily. Give us all a few problems and I'll actually sit down and think through the material but it got to the point of where I'd plug everything into calculators or get some answers from friends. For other courses, you can sometimes find the same assignment questions online or similar questions/concepts with different variables and just change for that. So you see, I often wish I went to a different school where actual learning of the material was valued rather than endless busy work. Because I've noticed an immense difference with my memory of material and overall learning experience from classes with reasonable HW vs classes with absurd amount of HW. It seems like so many hours of stress and BS are simply wasted when you never got to actually understand the shit, and let's remember, it wasn't free! Haha.

Ahh that's true. The problem comes when the Homework doesn't count for anything and instead you get a homework quiz twice a week, one for each homework. I have a dick professor who is doing this (taking calc 1 this semester) and we still get at least 16 problems/homework. All derivatives, integrals, other BS.

Any 2-3 problems from the homework can be on the quiz, no calculator, nothing, different quiz every class, get one little thing wrong on the quiz and the prof doesn't think you "know what you're doing" and you get docked full points. Absolute bullshit.

Crafting my schedule next semester with only well-known BS profs (for courses which aren't my major) so that I can ez bs my way through and hopefully keep my scholarship. Otherwise i'm fucked and it's off to state school for me.

Fuckin' dick-ass profs.

Damn man thats rough. It's awesome that you're starting fresh, though. I know of people who just never get off the ground after something like that. It takes guts, determination and ambition to do it, and if you follow through Kudos to you bro.

It's much better late than never, I wish you much luck in the next few years. Keep your head up and keep going o7

Here in England, secondary school (11-16) has people who are attending school because they have to. This leads to people being disruptive in class and other annoying behaviours thinking that they are cool (in my experience anyway)
But when it comes to sixth form/college(I am not here just yet, but I have had a few days as taster sessions) people tend to be much more willing to study(as they went through the hassle of applying and everything) Because of this, college/sixth form is a much more enjoyable experience In my opinion.

While I totally agree with this... I believe the OP was referring to the American version of college - as in University. Thought I'd clarify Smile

My experience was that everyone's work ethic was much better but their emotional and social maturity was probably worse than my experience with highschool. I went to a very good secondary/highschool which may be why I had such a different experience between school and university. There was more of a community atmosphere which is nice, especially in the American university I'm at now. Perhaps the maturity of undergrads could be related to them leaving home for the first time, becoming emerging adults and because they're beginning to face pressures of the real world that they haven't had to face before.

I can personally say that college is a lot better than highschool, there is no routine as in back in school we had to go 6 periods from 8 - 3 everyday. So basically the same thing over and over again. However, with college, though there might be more work, it's more calm in a sense.
