I've just scanned all APs within my proximity, and It's amazing how many are left unchanged at the default name of the manufacturer. That's already (potentially) 50% of the device compromised.

I bet the same will apply with default login credentials (admin:admin, admin2:admin2 etc).

Depending on the provider it could be due to factory resets of any hardware. As the first post showed I had a custom SSID but we had to do a factory reset because our ISP fucked up. Changing all the login credentials twice on everything is a hassle so we just left it as is.
It's often the outcasts, the iconoclasts ... those who have the least to lose because they
don't have much in the first place, who feel the new currents and ride them the farthest.
