Some people have a "gaming playlist" comprised of rock/dupstep/any heavy music and claim it helps them focus.

If this is you, you might be right but it can be done more efficiently.

Music from game soundtracks (anything from LoZ to Halo) is designed to help you focus on the task at hand, aiding your concentration and stimulating your frontal cortex (I'm no neurologist, correct me if I'm wrong there).

The guys over at rpgamers.net put together a huge library of soundtrack music from hundreds of games. Hell, in the last 15 minutes, I've listened to EarthBound, Tomb Raider and Pokémon.

I wouldn't say my gaming playlist (EDM) helps my focus. If anything it helps with reaction time and keeps me from focusing too much, (I play FPS games and without music tend to hover over things too much).

I tend to use trance music when I'm at work and seem to be having focus issues. I tend to fire up 2 and 3 hour mixes on youtube and hammer out some work.

Hahaha, A State of Trance with Armin Van Buuren or Andrew Rayel does it for me. Recently, even vocaloid seems to help.......
