California Bans State Travel to 5 States #1
In terms of things the state has done, this might be the most bizarre. The ban is only for state-funded travel, as civilians are still able to come and go as they please.

Quote:California added five more states, including Florida, to the list of places where state-funded travel is banned because of laws that discriminate against members of the LGBTQ community, the state attorney general announced Monday.

Democratic Attorney General Rob Bonta added Florida, Arkansas, Montana, North Dakota and West Virginia to the list that now has 17 states where state employee travel is forbidden except under limited circumstances.

"Make no mistake: We're in the midst of an unprecedented wave of bigotry and discrimination in this country — and the State of California is not going to support it," Bonta said.

Lawmakers in 2016 banned non-essential travel to states with laws that discriminate against lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender people. The 12 other states on the list are: Texas, Alabama, Idaho, Iowa, Oklahoma, South Carolina, South Dakota, Kentucky, North Carolina, Kansas, Mississippi, Tennessee.

I seriously have no idea how this is constitutional. It bans employee / commercial travel? So only employent opportunities are restricted? This is so weird.

It does bear similarities to tariffs/embargoes, which are typically applied on an international basis.

Execept you can smuggle products that have an embargo. You cant smuggle employment opportunities for a californian. All this does is support undocumented employment. Which i’m guessing is on purpose.

This is a state that outright banned gay marriage only to have that be struck down by the federal courts less than 10 years ago.

I... don't understand. This move really makes no sense to me. What impact does this actually have? I mean what, someone will have to buy their own overnight flight/hotel room when they travel for work to Florida?

At this point the state is probably doing this on purpose. They are aware of what doing this entails. Banning employee travel only bars legal work.
