Those who don't take compromising data seriously, think again. Gaining unauthorized access to any entity, particularly those of a high-profile sensitive nature, does have serious consequences. The following teenager found out the hard way.

An English teenager who accessed the email accounts of top US intelligence and security officials including the head of the CIA was sentenced to two years in prison on Friday.

“This was an extremely nasty campaign of politically motivated cyberterrorism,” judge Charles Haddon-Cave said at the sentencing at London’s Old Bailey criminal court.

A classic case of social engineering:

He was 15 and 16 when, from his bedroom in the central English town of Coalville, he managed to impersonate his targets to get passwords and gain highly sensitive information.

I think being a minor kind of saved him. His sentence could've been a lot higher for the damage he caused, and 2 years is not that bad. Also, he might even get a job offer when he comes out of jail. Wouldn't be the first time that something like that happened.

A lot of organizations hire hackers to Identify, exploit and fix vulnerabilities and (for the hacker) to provide corrective measures, Inclusive of fending off future attacks.

Personally i don´t believe that hacker are sitting in jail.I think that this is just story,otherwise could authorites close down every fking hacking forum and alla bulletproof hostngs too.

Another case of someone moving on from bothering other regular ass people like him to bothering important people and thinking that their current threat model is going to stay the same. Fucking with your next door neighbor or the guy that called you names online is a lot different than fucking with someone who has real power.
