Brand Loyalty (ft. A Dose of Buckley) 05-02-2013, 04:42 AM

Yes, I'm starting this thread with someone else's voice. I really hope you guys have heard about Buckley and if you haven't, please check him out. His sarcasm and rage just makes me laugh uncontrollably and he's so honest and harsh it really makes you wake up.
Anyway, brand loyalty really pisses me off and in the video he mentions Blackberry vs Apple, but I'm going to go off on mostly Apple. Don't take this post as ignorance because I have an iPhone 4S myself, but I'm talking about those brand loyal morons that stick to their product as mentioned in the video.
I'm a fairly savvy computer person and I know a great amount about technology and what would suit someone more than some products. The infamous saying that people give when purchasing an Apple iMac / Macbook is "It doesn't get viruses." Every time I hear this statement, it truly makes me want to throw their precious laptop across the room and say "Maybe not, but it still crashes!" With any computer, the customer should know that malware and infection is possible with any machine and everyone should be educated in certain aspects of their product so fixing simple things don't become difficult.
I worked at Verizon Wireless and I've had plenty of customers tell others that the iPhone is the best smart phone because Apple makes it. I was so awestruck when I heard this and if I wasn't in uniform, I would've slapped this customer with a tablet (Android preferably). Too many people aren't sure what they want in a phone or electronic product and just go with what they think is right. Shortly after, 45% of them aren't fully satisfied with that and it may be less than half, but it's still a lot and that produces a high return ratio and makes other companies look bad and lose money.
Now to lay off Apple for a bit because to be honest, they make wonderful products. Just that most of their customers are blinded by that damn logo. I had a customer that I was doing a computer job for tell me that he only likes Internet Explorer because it gives him the internet. This customer was told by Geek Squad (one reason why I hate them) that other internet programs could cause conflicts with your operating system and could bring viruses into his computer. I had to convince this customer to bring Mozilla / Chrome onto his computer for about 30 full minutes because I don't remember the exact issue, but all I know is that one website wouldn't fully work or load because IE didn't support it. I installed Chrome on his desktop and everything worked beautifully. I later educated him properly about other browsers and operating systems because of course, he had no idea what an operating system was. Shit like this really makes me mad I didn't have a tech related job.
Overall, I really love working in the tech field, but I hate it at the same time probably more than I hate working in the food industry because everyone has to complain about their food, especially the nit-picky people. So much false information and mis-education is present in this world and I really wish it would change. The customer service field really needs to do a better job because that's what it comes down to 60% of the time.
