Not to sound cliche, but my favorite book of all time currently is 1984.
Good story kind of gets political midway through but it's worth the boring world building.
If you're looking for a similar book. I heard Fahrenheit is really good too.

The Witching Hour of Anne Rice because despite being a very long book it manages not to get boring

Depends on the genre. My favourite genre is fantasy and my favourite books are The Wheel of Time
First book is like a children fantasy then the story gets darker and darker. I prefer WoT over A Song of Ice and Fire and Tolkien's
